Scone Cookies Recipe by Chef Alex

About the only thing I like to bake is a good scone. I got this recipe from one of my favorite and most influential chefs at least for me. Alton Brown, he keeps things so simple for a chef, yet complex in its own way I love it! I can make this recipe with my kids and from the same batch make three different scones.

  • 2 c flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt (this is my favorite step)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 tblsp butter
  • 2tblsp shortening
  • 3/4 c cream
  • 1 egg
  • Handful of chocolate chips

Mix the dry ingredients first and make sure you sift them thoroughly. Make sure you use table salt that works best. Mix and incorporate shortening & butter make sure butter is chilled. Then combine cream & egg, once you do add that mixture to the flour butter mixture combine till just comes together put mixture on floured surface and incorporate chocolate bake at 375ºF and bake 12-15 min once done brush with egg wash or butter and I like to sprinkle with sugar. Enjoy!
